Ceiling Fan Installation in Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky
New fans fitted, old ones swapped out, wobbles fixed. Mounted to a rated box so it stays where we put it. Flat $85 service call and a 1-year labor warranty.
The box matters more than the fan
The single most common problem we find is a ceiling fan hung from a standard light box. A light fitting is static and weighs very little. A fan is heavier and it moves, constantly, for years. A box that was never rated for that load works loose, and the first sign is usually a wobble that gets worse.
So before anything goes up, we check what is actually in the ceiling. If the existing box is not fan-rated, we fit one that is, braced to the joists. That is the difference between an installation and a fan that comes down eventually.
Replacing an old fan
Straight swap where the wiring and the box are sound. We take the old one down, check what it was fixed to, fit the new one and haul the old unit away.
Where there was only a light
Upgrading a light fitting to a fan usually means a new fan-rated box and sometimes a different switch arrangement. We will tell you what is involved before starting.
Wobbles and noise
Often a loose box, an unbalanced blade set or a downrod that was never properly seated. Usually fixable in well under an hour without replacing the fan.
Old wiring, and where we stop
In houses built before about 1950, the ceiling rose may be fed by original wiring. Knob-and-tube has no ground conductor and its cloth insulation goes brittle with age. Swapping a fixture on a circuit like that is not always a like-for-like job, and pretending otherwise does nobody any favours.
We will tell you what we find. Replacing a fixture on sound existing wiring is our work. New circuits, panel changes or rewiring a knob-and-tube run is a licensed electrician’s work, and we will say so on the phone rather than after the ceiling is open.
Common questions
How much does ceiling fan installation cost?
A straight replacement where the box is already fan-rated usually fits inside our flat $85 service call, covering the visit and the first hour. Fitting a new fan-rated box, or going from a light fitting to a fan, takes longer and you get a written price first.
Why does my ceiling fan wobble?
Usually one of three things: the box it hangs from is not fan-rated and has worked loose, the blades are out of balance, or the downrod is not properly seated. All three are fixable, usually quickly, and usually without buying a new fan.
Can you put a fan where there is only a light fixture?
Usually yes. It normally means fitting a fan-rated box braced to the joists, because a light box is not built for a moving load. If you also want separate switching for the fan and the light, that can change the job, and we will explain the options before starting.
Do you take the old fan away?
Yes. The old unit and the packaging from the new one both go with us.
Do I need an electrician instead?
Not for a straightforward replacement on sound existing wiring. You do need a licensed electrician for new circuits, panel work, or anything involving knob-and-tube wiring that needs replacing. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in.
